Headworx is the Riders Choice brand. Inspired by our team of core riders and our 30 years of surf heritage, we make quality, functional clothing with a strong graphic flavour. Putting back into the surf culture that we live and love, Headworx is a true brand for anyone who loves the riders’ lifestyle.
Headworx was started in 1976 by surfers and graphic designers Murray Bourton and Keith Halford, at Burleigh Heads Australia.
A core brand, Headworx was founded as a tee shirt and board shorts label, using designs developed by Keith for use on Murray’s surfboards. Initially selling to local surfers on the Australian Gold Coast, out of their makeshift garage factory, the brand quickly developed across the Australian east coast and then into Europe, becoming a well-known label.
As the European surfwear market kicked off, Headworx became more established in Europe as well as back in Australia. Sponsorship of major European surf events such as the Newquay Surf Festival (now the Newquay Boardmasters) and endorsements by key British riders such as Russell Winter and Nathan Phillips helped the brand’s strong growth in the UK and by the mid-1990’s the brand was largely based in the UK.
